Mobile Post: SBCC View from Stadium and Question
I heard somewhere that SBCC has closed it's track to non-students on certain days of the week, possibly due to an inappropriate track material that was intended for indoor (and not outdoor use). Can anyone confirm? And if so... what days can us locals get crazy on the stadiums?
I remember having to doing just that - back in the 90's at SMHS. We had to carry our teammates on our backs up and down these horrid things over and over.. I'm a small guy (5'6" and 125lbs at the time) and always got stuck with the big 190lb dude with zits and too much deodorant on. Coach didn't seem to understand (or care about) my thoughts on ratios..

Women's Soccer: Tsunami beats Sierra 2-0
Sierra isn't used to loosing. Since they've moved up to SBWSO Division A, they've been forced to hustle a bit more. They put up a great fight today at La Colina, but Tsunami ultimately prevailed with two goals in the last 30 minutes.

Men's Soccer: Islanders Trampled by Orion Offense
The often dominant Islanders got their asses handed to them today at Elings Park. What is normally a very competitive game between two of Santa Barbara's best mens soccer teams, often resulting in 1 point leads or ties, was instead a tour de force on the part of Orion, who trampled the Islanders 4-1.
At least it wasn't the all-out brawl that erupted on the field a month ago.

SB Islanders Defeat Orion (again)
The Santa Barbara Islanders had another decisive win this Sunday against Orion in a rough (and occasionally dirty) game at Elings park with 2 headers and a PK. Though both (very talented) teams started out strong, the game had nowhere to go but down as the play became more aggressive, chaotic and frantic - especially during the second half. Still quite a show for those of us on the sidelines sipping our drinks and soaking in the unusually warm January sun.
Though Orion put in a heroic effort in the last half to catch up, the Islanders, maintained their 3-1 lead for the win.

Islanders Thump Pueblo 4-1
The SB Islanders had another strong game at Elings park against newcomer Pueblo. The first half seemed evenly matched, with Pueblo scoring the first goal early on. The islanders responded immediately with two powerful goals within minutes of each other. The second half yielded two more goals for the Islanders (one a penalty kick, and the other a very finessed tap-in past the keeper) as Pueblo started having difficulty breaking the Islanders defense. The game was clean, partly because of the high level of sportsmanship (both teams), and partly due to the wet field which kept most everyone playing a relatively conservative game.

Women's Soccer: Avia's Cosmos get Vortexed by Sierra 3-zip
I went to the 9am Women's soccer game today between Cosmos and Sierra at La Cumbre Middle School. The field (as always) was very bumpy, and very wet from the night before which made the game just a little hectic (but all the more entertaining). Sierra gained the upper hand early, with all three of their goals being scored before the end of the first half. The Cosmos (who are normally a very formidable team) were short 2 players - and though they struggled, fought valiantly and hard until the bitter end.
On a side note.. It is beyond me why these local adult league games (Women's and Men's soccer) are not better attended. Bafflingly, the sidelines often only consist of boyfriends, girlfriends, occasional parents and injured players. However, the level of play, and quality of entertainment is in my opinion worthy of a much bigger audience. I highly recommend showing up with your lawn chair, coffee and blanket to any of these games.

Women's Soccer: Sierra beats Solstice 3-0
Team Sierra gracefully trounced Solstice today at Dwight Murphy field this morning. Though the game seemed a bit scattered at first, the Sierra defense proved too tough for Solstice. 3 clean and very pro-looking goals by Sierra didn't do much for Solstice moral either. The game ended 3-0 for Sierra despite some questionable calls against them by the ref.

Men's Soccer: Orion & SB Islanders Tie 3-3

........
In a hard fought -and at times frustrating - match, the Islanders seemed to have the upper hand going into the last several minutes of the second half. Orion answered with a last minute (low flying) header into the goal with only a few minutes to spare, tying the game at 3-3.
