this week marks the 45th anniversary of the occupation of Sproul Hall by hundreds of Berkeley students led by the Free Speech Movement--an action that resulted in mass arrests, a massive strike and the ultimate achievement of FSM's free speech demands. This was the occasion for Mario Savio's famous argument for mass civil disobedience. On tonight's program we'll be visited by students and faculty who, last week, staged a fast on the UCSB campus opposing tuition increases and the defunding of higher education. We'll hear their story, and listen to some songs and sounds of the FSM demonstrators 45 years ago.
