I'm bored. I'm in a cubical. I am plain yogurt, left on a car dashboard by a negligent college kid. I will spill, globby and sour, into the vents of the information superhighway. Thank god Al Gore invented this thing before he invented Global Warming.
This'll be a quicky. I'm in the middle of lickin the glue stick and pasting together a list of the bands that are commin to town that I think sound interesting over the next few weeks and will be puttin that out soonish.
In the local band scene, the good news is that three of the very select local bands we like, Gardens & Villa, Quiet Giant, and Larry H. Parker & the 2.1 Million have all recorded recently and listenable toons will soon be peeking out at the world for the first time, eyes blinking spastically in the suns new shine. I also saw Matt Simpson's nacent project a few days back... it may not be named yet, but it sounded good. His voice reminds me of Mr. Stipe of REM, but better, more relaxed, and his use of a backing "mini choir" is cool.
The bad news is that Jensen's Mainstage closed. Between the Summer of Recovery never arriving in California and Santa Barbara's longstanding attempt to use rent and expenses that are higher than John DeLorean in 1982 to kill off anything that'd encourage anyone but landlords, college kids, and German tourists to be here.... especially middle class families with gasssp! teenage kids! they couldn't stay open. It's a shame cause a lot of the high school kids who were just getting into bands played there.
But hey.... at least we can all go see some left over has been from the late 60s at the bowl every year.... and we have Katy Perry too! WIN!
Oh well, like I said, we'll get that list of upcoming shows out to you soon, hopefully you'll share this blog with every living creature you know on the planet.... saving SB's pathetic band scene will be the new Global Warming!
And speaking of sharing, which is the thick ankled sister of caring, here's another play list. These bands aren't put together with any theme, other than the fact that the members of the Black Hand have impecable taste in music. It's got a little bit of "newish" stuff from Cults, Male Bonding, etc. and some older, under celebrated stuff by bands like Blue Tip and The Ex. Enjoy yourself.
LIQUID LIQUID = Fuck guitars.
