SANTA BARBARA, CA – At 06:15 this morning, a large semi truck and trailer was attempting to make a delivery at the Coast Village Shopping Center. As the driver pulled into the parking area, he punctured a 25 gallon diesel tank which supplied the trailers refrigeration unit.
Santa Barbara City Fire Department Engine 2 and Hazardous Materials Unit 1 responded and found a significant amount of diesel fuel had spilled across Coast Village Road. The diesel fuel spill was made more substantial due to the wet road way from the recent rains. There was approximately five gallons of diesel and water that had made its way into a nearby street storm drain. Engine 2 contained the spill and used absorbent on the roadway. Additional clean up will continue this morning and afternoon.
