Not the best photo, but hey, it's about the knowledge. Those clusters are the Monarch butterflies, getting cozy in the cooling autumn weather.
If you come on a sunnier day, they'll be flexing wings and fluttering about more. So...maybe not such a good show this coming Friday, or Saturday or Sunday (rain expected).
The Monarch Preserve is at the end of Coronado Drive in Ellwood, about a 3-5 minute walk into the Eucalyptus grove. En route it looks like some volunteers have newly planted a collection of flowering shrubs that butterflies like. Just in time for the rains.
They'll be around all through winter. Come by for a visit!
