I just wanted to follow up on my video post about the Tea Fire. I went up to a new friend's to sift ashes near Mountain Dr. There were a few small items that were deemed as possibilities for surviving the fire that hadn't been found. We took add-hock screens and masks - it felt like a mining trip of sorts.
I'm hoping that there had been large and medium sized items that they found before us, because there was almost nothing left. The main discoveries on my part were interesting forms of melted glass that were saved for the owner's art project. My friend Jon found a sewing needle...
That said, one of the sought after items, a small bronze figurine from Africa, was discovered, much to everyone's joy and amazement. The fire wasn't hot enough to melt bronze, but it did curl thick 4 inch nails. Anyway, it was a bittersweet scene with so many people pitching in each to comb through a section of the house.
