About Us: Common Ground Santa Barbara is a collaborative effort of community members from the non-profit, governmental, business and faith communities of Santa Barbara County striving to end homelessness in our communities.
Common Ground Santa Barbara is working alongside the National Common Ground Non-Profit organization as part of their 100,000 Homes Campaign. During the week of February 28th - March 4th, 2011, community volunteers and dedicated experts will use Common Ground's Vulnerability Index to survey persons experiencing street homelessness who are at the greatest risk of premature death.
This prioritization will target limited housing resources to those most in need, thereby saving lives and impacting the community through an immediate visible reduction in street homelessness and use of high cost emergency services.
Registry Week: Santa Barbara’s Registry week will begin with a training of volunteers on Sunday, February 27th. Then, on Monday, February 28th and the following two days, volunteers will canvas the County in teams to find our homeless neighbors and administer the Vulnerability Index. We will then compile all of the surveys into a secure database for evaluation and ranking.
We need your help to carryout this important task of administering the survey and inputting the data. We need hundreds of volunteers to go out for the three days of surveying beginning February 28, 2011 and for the following two days (March 1st and March 2nd). Please sign up to volunteer and also direct your friends to this site to volunteer [http://www.commongroundsb.org/commongroundsb/Volunteer.html].
Early morning surveying of our homeless neighbors utilizing our locally adapted Vulnerability Index; volunteer outposts will be set up at various locations throughout the County including SM, Lompoc, Goleta/IV, Santa Barbara and Carpinteria (exact locations TBD). Sign up now at www.commongroundsb.org! Volunteers will be assigned to teams of 4 and will arrive at their designated outpost each morning at 4am sharp for hot coffee, donuts, camaraderie, and supplies, returning by 7am for debriefing. Volunteers are also needed to assist volunteers at the outposts, help with refreshments, upload photos, etc.
If You Belong To A Club or Organization: Common Ground Santa Barbara can make a presentation about volunteering to your members.
