There are a lot of wonderful, unique things to love about Santa Barbara. Here are my top five, in no particular order:
Coffee Cat coffee is the best in town. PLUS it's organic and fair trade. And local (it's Green Star Coffee, isn't that right?). How do you get more perfect than that? (I'll tell you, in two words: walking distance)
And when I’m walking to the Cat, I pass by our County Courthouse Sunken Gardens. Where I got married. For free (that’s changed, bummer). ‘Nuff said.
The Burger Bus. I adore the BB. I refuse to eat burgers of dubious origin (over-processed, chemical-laden amalgamations of a hundred different cows) and I’m not wild about corn-fed beef of any kind (have you seen the film King Corn?). Enter the Burger Bus - grass-fed beef, local veggies and bread, C’est Cheese cheese, Telegraph beer battered onion rings. Which aren’t rings. But whatever, they taste amazing.
Edhat.com. Edhat is awesome. I got into it a couple of fires ago when the updates posted by community members were more timely and accurate than those coming from news stations. I think it’s the best source for local news - from the major events to the mundane. You can always count on Edhat & the Edhat community. And the new referral section is sooooo helpful.
McConnell’s ice cream & fro yo. I love that they use basic, real ingredients, and even the frozen yogurt brands they offer aren’t full of junk (one is even organic). Ask to see the ingredients list for any other ice cream shop in town and you may be appalled at the bizarre and unnecessary stuff in there. I just wish there were more McConnell’s locations, like one on State.
