Forum Lounge continues its popular screenings of award-winning animated short films
with selections from the 2009 Ottawa International Animation Film
Festival. The Best of Ottawa program showcases many of the outstanding
films presented in the Official Competition. The 2009 program includes
such exceptional films as: David OReilly’s award-winning sci-fi drama
“Please Say Something”; the innovative and mesmerizing “The Bellow’s
March”, directed by Eric Dyer; Diego Maclean’s haunting student film
entitled “The Art of Drowning”; and the crowd-favourite travelogue
“Madagascar, A Journey Diary”, by Bastien Dubois.

This week’s Forum Lounge featuring the Best of the 2009 Ottawa International Film Festival will undoubtedly be one of the most popular of the year. The last time we screened the festival in 2008, it was to a packed house of animation aficionados, film lovers, and fun-seeking families. This year’s curated selection—culled from hundreds of submissions from all over the world—promises to be as entertaining, inspiring and quirky in its offerings. From the whimsical to the more art serious, the Ottawa International Animation Film Festival is a perfect vehicle to showcase some of the best contemporary animators and video artists creating today. As animation continues to gain in popularity and reputation as a legitimate fine art form, the featured artists in this program prove that ingenuity and craft are still the backbone of creativity. And, in the context of Forum Lounge, it offers some lighter-hearted fare while still staying true to the spirit of exploration and experimentation that is so characteristic of the program. So sit back, get comfortable and enjoy a summer evening of excellent filmmaking!

CAF is a non-profit, non-collecting institution dedicated to exhibiting the highest quality of contemporary art while recognizing "the artists of tomorrow," and was founded in 1976 by artists and art supporters seeking a venue dedicated solely to contemporary art. What once began as a grassroots, artist-run organization with nominal funding now serves as the leading contemporary arts presenter in Central California. CAF offers its innovative education and exhibition programming to the region primarily free of charge. There is no admission fee because CAF believes that the arts should be accessible to all audiences of all persuasions.
